Are you looking for essential oil roller bottle recipes specifically for your kids? Natural recipes to support our kids physically and mentally is a must! As a mom of two boys, I know the many needs our kids have and keeping these amazing roller blends nearby has been so helpful in our everyday life.
The following post may contain affiliate links of products I use and love. You can read my full disclosure here.
Life with kids has A LOT of ups and downs – someone fell and scraped their knee, someone’s belly hurts, someone can’t focus on their school work, someone isn’t tired and ready for bed – you can hear all of those and more on a daily basis in my house.
We have a lot of happiness and laughter..and a lot of crying and fighting – it’s just life.
Having essential oil rollers just for my kids helps us out so much. Yesterday my little guy fell off his bike and came inside with a scraped up knee – a little Owie Blend and a band-aid did the trick! And then my oldest couldn’t fall asleep and was starting to get upset. I asked him if he wanted his “sleepy oils” and we put some on the back of his neck and down his spine. He immediately relaxed and was able to calmly fall asleep.
Whether it’s a placebo effect (for the skeptics) or not (for all you believers) – giving your kids that peace of mind helps put them at ease.
I have previously talked about six essential oil recipes every mama needs which are really helpful for adults and kids, but these six I’m about to give you are just for the kids. My kids absolutely love having their own set of roller bottle blends, it makes them more special (and more effective!)
Roller Bottle Blends for Kids
These are our top six, most used roller bottle blends for kids. The majority of the essential oils we use are from doTERRA so you may see the name of a blend or two in there. I will put a substitution in case you don’t have it.
You can also substitute the blend I use with a similar blend from the essential oil company you use. For example, I use doTERRA’s On Guard blend which is very similar to Young Living’s Thieves oil. But if you don’t have either – replace it with cinnamon or simply leave it out!
The drops I am using are based on dilution for 7-11 year old kids. If you are wondering how many drops of essential oil to put in your roller bottles, I included a dilution chart below so you can adjust the drops based on the age of your kids.
Belly Blend
6 drops Digestzen (or Peppermint + Ginger)
2 drops Frankincense
2 drops Wild Orange
–> Apply to belly and bottoms of the feet.
Sleep Tight
4 drops Lavender
4 drops Cedarwood
2 drops Frankincense
–> Apply to the back of the neck and down the spine or bottoms of the feet.
Immune
5 drops On Guard (or Cinnamon + Rosemary)
2 drops Lemon
2 drops Tea Tree
1 drops Oregano
–> Apply to the bottoms of the feet once a day.
Happy
20 drops Balance*
3 drops Copaiba
3 drops Wild Orange
–> Apply to wrists, back of neck and behind ears.
*Balance is a prediluted blend so I use more drops and add less carrier oil. If you don’t have Balance, replace it with 5 drops of Frankincense.
Owie Blend
4 drops Frankincense
4 drops Lavender
4 drops Tea Tree
–> Apply to cuts, scrapes, scars, pimples and any other type of owie.
Focus
6 drops Lime*
4 drops Frankincense
1 drop Vetiver
1 drop Roman Chamomile
–> Apply to back of neck. If you are going outdoors apply down the spine instead of the back of neck (assuming your child has a shirt on!) because Lime essential oil can make skin sensitive to the sun.
*for my 11-year old I will add closer to 10-15 drops Lime.
How many drops of essential oil should I put in the roller bottle?
I always tend to go on the lower end when it comes to drops because you can always add more. I used to overdo it before I knew how powerful essential oils are. Less is definitely more when it comes to essential oils!
I follow the dilution chart below when I make all of my essential oil rollers. My kids are 7 and 11 so I usually do about 10ish drops TOTAL for their rollers.
What is the best carrier oil for essential oil rollers?
Fractionated coconut oil is our go-to for making roller bottles. It absorbs quickly into the skin, never leaving a greasy feel. It’s odorless and will never go rancid. I always have this bottle of FCO on hand for making rollers.
My favorite roller ball set (especially for kids!) is the Happy Palette from the Root and Petal – they distribute the perfect amount of essential oil every time. I like that the actual rollerball is made of glass too. We try to stay away from plastic.
How to make an essential oil roller bottle
To make your essential oil roller bottle for kids, first, add the essential oils to the roller bottle. Second, fill the rest of the roller bottle with your carrier oil. Third, push the top (the actual roller ball part) down onto the bottle. Shake it up to mix the essential oils.
The last thing I always do is apply a label so we don’t get our roller blends mixed up. These are my favorite labels – and they just happen to be made by me!
