You may be wondering why I would be writing about green juice recipes. Well, beauty has everything to do with how we feel (in my opinion), and when we put awesome bevvies like green juice in our bodies, it makes us feel glowing and beautiful!
The Truth about Green Juice
I have always been a big fan of vegetable juice, but my problem was consistency. I just couldn’t get into a routine with it. Between making the kids breakfast and dealing with the craziness of life, I couldn’t get it done (excuses right?).
Well, guess what? I finally figured out the key to drinking green juice on a daily basis – it all came down to the juicer I was using.
I started making my green lemonade with the Breville Compact Juicer which is a centrifugal juicer. It worked really well (and you can’t beat the price), but the only problem was you had to drink the juice immediately to get the full benefits of the vitamins and enzymes.
Over the summer I picked up this Omega juicer and it made a world of difference. The Omega juicer is a masticating juicer which means the veggies are crushed or “masticated” at a slow speed. This breaks down the fiber of the veggies more thoroughly, making the juice more nutrient-dense.
This also means you don’t have to drink the juice immediately to reap all of the benefits. It stays good for about 2 days. This is a busy mom’s dream!!
Green Lemonade – the Ultimate Beauty Drink
This green juice recipe is based on the juice recipe from Natalia Rose, a nutritionist and raw food guru. In her book, Raw Food Life Force Energy, she says, “Without a doubt, consuming vegetable juices is the single most effective way to increase your Life Force Energy quotient through diet. They also taste delicious and refreshing, while delivering deep hydration and oxygen to the cells and bloodstream.”
Doesn’t that sound like something you want in your life?
Green Lemonade Ingredients
The recipe for our green lemonade is a mix of dark leafy greens, celery, cucumber and lemon. If you are a true beginner, you may want to add an apple or two to the recipe for sweetness.
My favorite dark leafy greens to use are spinach, kale, romaine and swiss chard. I like to add 2 lemons for the extra green lemonade flavor!
If you are a complete newbie go for spinach and romaine to start since they are less mild.
My Everyday Juicing Ritual
Since I use the omega juicer, I can make my juice the day before and still enjoy it fresh in the morning.
I like to find a quiet time in the afternoon for juicing (if you have a baby napping this juicer is perfect because it’s pretty quiet!). I put on a podcast or some music and I start chopping up my veggies. This has become a ritual for me that I really enjoy.
If I make enough juice, I’ll sneak in a small glass before dinner.
I just picked up this juicing book by Kris Carr, another queen of juicing, for more recipe ideas. I love my green lemonade, but it’s good to switch things up every now and again.
I hope you enjoy your green lemonade as much as I do!
