If you’re not using essential oils yet, well you better get your hands on some! We use them for EVERYTHING – health, beauty, wellness and best of all, self care.
Self care is definitely somewhat of a buzzword right now and for good reason. Us women, mamas, working ladies – we all need to take good care of ourselves so we can be the best version of ourselves to the people that really matter.
Check out this self care checklist (with a free printable!) – it’s how I went from hot mess mama to cool as a cucumber mama (most days!)
Self Care Doesn’t Have to Be Complicated or Expensive!
What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think about self care? Massages, mani/pedis, long walks on the beach? They are definitely great ways to practice self care, but they can also be a little unrealistic for some of us.
I like to think about self care as a way to give myself some peace and clarity throughout the day. This way I can be a better wife, a better mom and a better business owner.
And we are here to talk about essential oils right?! Having these amazing essential oil bottles at your fingertips can give you little moments throughout your busy day where you can take a break, take a few deep breaths and really ground yourself.
I’m excited to share my four favorite ways to use essential oils for self care!
My Favorite Essential Oils for Self Care
Gosh, there are so many, but I have to pick some favorites right? These are the four I use on a daily basis:
Frankincense – grounding
Lavender – calming
Wild Orange – uplifting
Peppermint – energizing
You might love these scents, you might hate them – test out which ones work for you. For example, Peppermint may be too strong for you but Eucalyptus is just right. It’s all about what you are attracted to.
If you are a beginner, stick with uplifting essential oils like Lemon, Grapefruit and Lime or calming essential oils like Lavender, Bergamot and Clary Sage.
Now let’s get to the different ways to practice self care with essential oils!
#1 – Diffuse Essential Oils Throughout the Day
This is one of the easiest ways to reap the benefits of essential oils for self care. And bonus: your whole family can enjoy them too! One of the first things I do in the morning is pop a few oils in our diffuser. I always do Frankincense + a citrus oil (usually Wild Orange or Bergamot) to set the mood for the day.
If I’m feeling really blah and I need a pick me up during the day, I diffuse essential oils like Peppermint and Spearmint with Lime or Lemon.
One of my favorites ways to get some peace and tranquility is to go up in my room and add Eucalyptus, Lavender and Wild Orange to my diffuser and just sit and relax with that aroma for a few minutes. It smells like a spa!
Try out this inexpensive diffuser. It’s one of my favorites. I’ve had it for five years now and it’s still going strong!
#2 – Make An Essential Oil Roller
I have a few key essential oil rollers that I must have with me or near me at all times. When I’m feeling really stressed or frantic I’ll grab a roller and roll it on my wrists and then rub it on the back of my neck. Then I take a few deep breaths and really take in the aroma. This is so helpful I promise you!
I love the combination of essential oils pictured above, which I call my “Calm Mommy” roller. I also have an amazing anxiety roller that is with me at all times.
These are my favorite rollers to make my blends in. It’s called the “happy palette” for a reason!
#3 – Add Essential Oils To Your Beauty Products
You may be thinking, how would adding essential oils to my beauty products help anything?
My night time skincare routine is sacred! I look forward to it every night and it’s because I incorporate essential oils into it. My family knows that they should not disturb me when I’m “washing my face” which makes it even better!
This is one my favorite way to use essential oils for self care. Not only are the essential oils benefiting my skin, but smelling the aroma while gently massaging my face is one of the most relaxing and peaceful feelings ever.
I highly encourage you to add a few drops of Lavender or Frankincense into your moisturizer at night and see how good it makes you feel.
#4 – Use Essential Oils In The Shower
This may sound weird, but using essential oils in the shower is ahhh-mazing! I like to find these little pockets of time when I am alone, and what’s better than the shower or bath?!
I take a bottle of Eucalyptus, Rosemary or Peppermint in the shower with me and put a few drops on the floor while the water is warming up. When I jump in it’s like a heavenly spa!
I will also add a drop each of Rosemary and Lavender to my shampoo and massage my scalp. Both of those essential oils help with hair growth and strength and promote overall healthy hair. Plus the smell is out of this world! You could also try my Mermaid Spray for strong, healthy hair to get extra benefits once you are out of the shower.

Cool..Let me know what you think! Haha yea the stars never really align!

Great tips! I like the idea of adding a little bit of self care to my day instead of waiting for the stars to align for a spa day (that never happens). I’ll have to try combining Balance with citrus in the diffuser. I am going to try that today!
