Natural Relief from Head Tension with Essential Oils
The following post may contain affiliate links of products I use and love. You can read my full disclosure here.
I went from getting head tension every day to rarely feeling any head tension. When it pops up, this is my go-to remedy for immediate relief.
One of the main reasons I started using essential oils was for the head pain I was dealing with almost daily. It took a little bit of trial and error to figure out a remedy that worked well and on a consistent basis, but I finally found it and I want to share it with you!
How I stopped getting head tension every day
While I was on the hunt for the best blend to relieve head tension, the tension started to become less frequent. This is because I started to clean up my health and wellness routine. I started to use natural products for cleaning, I ditched all of the toxic personal care products I was using and I incorporated more real, whole foods in my diet.
The greatest side effect of living a more natural lifestyle was my head tension pretty much disappeared!
They still rear their ugly head from time to time – mostly before I get my period or if I haven’t been drinking enough water.
If you’re experiencing head tension every day like I was, here are a few tips to try and make it less frequent:
- Take a look at your diet and see what you can eliminate. Focus on eating real, whole foods.
- Use natural products for cleaning and personal care. Check out my DIY Recipes for a few ideas.
- Drink LOTS of water. Being dehydrated can bring head tension on quickly!
Head Tension Soothing Roller
On the rare occasion when major head tension rolls in, I can always stifle it with this soothing roller. Just four essential oils for immediate relief!
I usually have two of these rollers made up, one for home and one to throw in my bag. If you start using the roller when the head tension first comes on, you can keep it from being full-blown(almost every time!).
The four essential oils in the roller are Deep Blue (a soothing blend of peppermint, wintergreen and a few other goodies), Lavender, Frankincense and Peppermint. Deep Blue and Peppermint are super soothing while Lavender and Frankincense help with inflammation and swelling.
What you need to make your soothing roller
10 drops Deep Blue (replace with wintergreen if you don’t have)
10 drops Peppermint
5 drops Lavender
5 drops Frankincense
fractionated coconut oil
a 10 ml roller bottle.
Add the essential oils to the roller first, then fill the rest with fractionated coconut oil. Shake it up to combine everything.
How to use your roller
When you feel head tension coming on, roll onto your wrists, across your forehead, down the back of your neck and behind your ears. I like to take big inhales from my wrists once I apply it and I feel like that helps relieve the tension in my head really quickly.
You can use this roller as often as every 15-20 minutes. I usually do it every 20 minutes for the first hour and if I’m still not feeling great by then I’ll use it maybe twice an hour after that.
And that’s it! I hope this helps you get some relief from the head tension you are dealing with. Leave a comment below if you have a favorite combination of essential oils to relieve head tension.
