The Best Essential Oils for Beautiful Skin
We are all striving for beautiful, glowing skin. Our skin will never be perfect, but we can get pretty close with essential oils. I get comments about how great my skin looks all the time and I am completely grateful and humbled by those comments.
If you know my story at all you know that I suffered from melasma for years. It’s awful and embarrassing and pretty much made me want to crawl under a rock.
Once I started using essential oils and looking into more natural options my skin slowly began to clear. I realized that all of the products and sunscreens I was putting on my skin was doing more harm than good. I simplified my routine, started making my own skincare products and stopped thinking about how my face looked all the time.
The melasma on my face didn’t go away overnight, but as I started feeling and looking better it didn’t bother me as much. I knew it would eventually go away and the majority of it did. I still have a few patches of hyperpigmentation, but I don’t mind them. I can cover it up with concealer and sometimes I do, but most of the time I don’t.
I’ve been using essential oils for seven years and I have done A LOT of experimenting with oils for my skin during that time. There are five essential oils that I keep in my bedroom and bathroom that I pretty much use on my skin every day. Sometimes I dab them on my skin, sometimes I add a drop or two or Argan or Jojoba oil, and I always, always have a DIY serum ready to go!

Are essential oils safe to use on your skin?
Yes! There are so many benefits to using essential oils in skincare – they can help with acne, relieve itchy skin, reduce scars and hyperpigmentation, heal wounds, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and so much more – how can we pass that up?!
Of course, safety is extremely important when it comes to using essential oils on your skin. As long as you are properly diluting your essential oils they are perfectly safe to use on your skin. The following table is a good guide when you start making your own skincare and serums in order to ensure proper dilution.
I usually stick to a 1-2% dilution and I have had great results. If you are making a 10 ml roller just divide the drops/30 ml column by 3.
If you’re new to using essential oils on your skin, you will definitely want to go slow. Start with a patch test on the inside of your arm and notice how your skin reacts. I always recommend mixing the essential oil with a carrier oil like Argan Oil or Jojoba Oil.

I used to put melaleuca (tea tree oil) undiluted on blemishes and I noticed it would make them really red and dry. Once I started applying it diluted with a carrier oil, the redness and the pimple went away.
I was always hesitant to use an oil on my skin for fear of breakouts, but using argan oil and jojoba oil has really balanced my skin out and breakouts are few and far between.
Alright..let’s get to the essential oils!
Five essential oils for beautiful skin
Tea Tree Oil
Tea Tree Oil is my go-to for blemishes. Just a little dab with a carrier oil throughout the day and that pimple goes bye bye. It’s also great for dry, itchy skin patches and itchy scalps (and cuts and scrapes Moms!). I keep a Tea Tree Oil roller (just tea tree mixed with carrier oil) on my nightstand to roll onto my skin before bed.
Lavender
Ahh, Lavender. Just thinking about this oil soothes my soul. Lavender is widely known as a calming oil, but did you know it can also calm your skin? It is extremely soothing to the skin. Any type of redness or irritation will be healed using Lavender essential oil.
I like to apply this to my face at night if I’ve had a particularly rough day. It’s going to relax and calm my skin and at the same time set me up for a restful night of sleep. Win-win.
Frankincense
My boy Frank. He helps me out and he’s just so darn reliable. In all seriousness Frankincense is incredible for skin, especially scarring and hyperpigmentation. I will add a drop to my moisturizer or just dab it right onto healing pimples so they don’t scar. Frankincense is my go-to nightly oil because it helps firm up and tone skin.
I applied Frankincense to a scar on the back of my neck for a few weeks and the scar is barely noticeable now. This. oil. rocks.
Helichrysum
Helichrysum heals skin. That’s how I like to think of it. You will find Helichrysum in a lot of anti-aging serums and moisturizers because of it’s powerful skin healing and wrinkle-reducing properties. This is not an oil I use on a daily basis because of its hefty price tag, but I like to add it to my skin serum roller so I’m still getting the benefits of this incredible oil.
Oh and ps: this essential oil is also known as “liquid stitches” – so if you have kids who get torn up on a daily basis like mine, it’s a good one to have on hand!
Rose
Rose is the ultimate beauty oil. I add it to my DIY beauty balm (lip balm) and it smells soooo good. It’s really good for combating red, irritated skin. I like to apply Rose to fine lines and spots, layered over Frankincense.
I usually apply this one last because I LOVE the way it makes me feel. The smell of Rose is hypnotic and it just makes my day (or night) better when I smell it.
A super awesome essential oil serum (it’s anti-aging!)
To make this awesome serum you will need a 1-ounce dropper bottle. The essential oils you will need are Lavender, Frankincense and Helichrysum – whichever brand you prefer.
The recipe is:
4 drops Lavender
4 drops Frankincense
4 drops Helichrysum
Fill the rest with equal parts Argan Oil and Jojoba Oil.
You can use this serum to spot treat areas OR to spread it all over your face either as your moisturizer or under your moisturizer.
My absolute favorite facial oil to use with this serum is Argan Oil. It doesn’t make me break out and it glides on like butter. My face isn’t an oily mess after using it either. Argan Oil comes from Morocco and it is extremely moisturizing and healing for your skin.
I love the addition of Jojoba Oil as well. I always add Jojoba Oil to my serums because it’s a really good match to our skin’s natural sebum. It’s really great for acne-prone skin too.
You might be thinking, that’s all there is to this serum? The answer is YES! There are no fancy ingredients because the oils themselves are the rockstars – plus Argan Oil is naturally rich in Vitamin E and antioxidants. You couldn’t ask for a better serum!

If I’m feeling lazy, I will just do two pumps of Argan Oil in my hand with one drop of essential oil (it’s usually pretty tough deciding between the three, not gonna lie) and slather it all over my face.
As far as carrier oils, if you don’t love Argan Oil and Jojoba Oil as much as I do, check out this post for a few of my other favorite facial oils.
