DIY Lip Scrub with Coconut Oil
Why should we scrub our lips? Our lips actually need quite a lot of love from us!
Our lips don’t contain any sweat or sebaceous glands. That means, unlike our skin, they don’t produce any protective oils.
This makes our lips more vulnerable to outside elements like the heat, dry weather and winds, the sun and cold weather. Our poor little lips tend to get much drier than the rest of our skin.
Making a homemade lip scrub with coconut oil is a great way to exfoliate your lips, sloughing off those dead skin cells and at the same time adding moisture with the coconut oil.
How often should we use a homemade lip scrub?
I usually use this lip scrub with coconut oil one to two times per week. I love to follow it with my DIY lip balm. Using the two together makes your lips feel softer than a baby’s bottom. I swear!
Ingredients for your DIY Lip Scrub with Coconut Oil
- 1/2 Tbsp Coconut Oil
- 1 Tbsp Brown Sugar – use whatever you have in your pantry. Sometimes I use coconut sugar or white sugar. Depends on what I have at the moment!
- 1 tsp Raw Honey – I get it from my local farmer’s market. This one is great if that’s not an option for you.
- 5 drops Essential Oils – I used Peppermint and Lime
- Containers – this recipe will make close to 2 oz. These containers are awesome and I love that the lids aren’t plastic.
How to make your DIY Lip Scrub with Coconut Oil
You guys, I’m not gonna lie, this is the absolute easiest DIY out there! Even if you’re not a DIYer, you will make this recipe over and over again because of how simple it is.
Alright, so grab a small bowl and add in your coconut oil. I use a small whisk to really whip it so it’s nice and smooth. No need to melt it down for this recipe.
Next, add in your brown sugar and raw honey. Combine the ingredients until they are pretty smooth. Lastly, add in your essential oils.
I highly recommend using Peppermint essential oil in your homemade lip scrub because it makes your lips feel nice and tingly. I like to pair the Peppermint essential oil with a citrus oil – and for this one, I chose Lime essential oil. The combination rocks – trust me!
Once all of your ingredients are combined, pour your mixture into a container.
How to use your Homemade Lip Scrub
This part can get a little messy so make sure you are over a sink or have a washcloth handy.
Scoop a little bit of the lip scrub out of the container and gently rub your lips with the scrub. You can eat some too, that’s cool.
Keep that going for a little bit and then wipe it off with a warm washcloth.
Apply your homemade lip balm and marvel at how soft your lips feel.
