I had terrible skin on and off throughout my twenties which led to a case of melasma after my first son was born. I was desperately searching for a way to get rid of it – I tried every cream, lotion, mask, and supplement out there. Nothing worked.
I decided to stop obsessing over it and instead explored natural skincare options like oil cleansing and DIY face creams. Shea butter and argan oil became my best friends. I started using essential oils for stress and relaxation. The melasma didn’t disappear overnight, but it slowly started becoming less and less noticeable. The simple products I was using brought out a natural “glow” which was the best thing I could ask for!
I started sharing my recipes (you can find tons here) on this blog and now I get amazing feedback on how these super simple remedies are helping you all. It warms my heart.
Then on February 2, 2022 my husband died suddenly of a heart attack. Our world (me + 2 boys + 1 dog) was obliterated. Needless to say, I stopped sharing recipes and writing blog posts.
Anything to do with skincare and beauty doesn’t interest me right now to be honest. In fact, I’m interested in focusing less on beauty and more on why we care so much about it. Because really all you need is a good facial oil, a little shea butter, and maybe some raw honey. Everything else is just marketing.
Luckily, I started running back in November and it’s been so helpful to continue that. It helps me mentally and physically and I would not be able to take care of my kids if it weren’t for running.
I will be honest with you, I don’t know if I will continue writing articles. Right now I’m focusing on my kids, running, and maybe making some soap. Because who doesn’t love a good bar of soap?
